Getting Ready to Go

Above are pictures taken with our new camera purchased especially for the trip to Vietnam. Thanks so much to Mom, Lee (the birthday gifts), and GG (the Christmas gifts) for making this happen. We splurged and got a camera that takes multiple pictures each second. It's such a nice switch from our other camera, and we're excited about taking lots of pictures during our trip. Chris is bringing the telephoto lens because he insists that we will regret not having a telephoto lens if a water buffalo walks by the van on the way to the orphanage. (We'll definitely be quite a sight in Hanoi as we lug around our giant camera, a toddler in a baby bjorn, a preschooler in a backpack carrier, and another backpack full of who knows what else. We wouldn't have it any other way.
Chloe, Chris, and I are moving fast as we get ready to leave for Vietnam this Friday. We're doing lots of packing, baby proofing, planning, informing... And, we're trying to sneak in a little fun in the mix. It's amazing to think that we'll be with Gabrielle next week. Several of our friends finished their adoptions and are on their way back to the US as I type this email, so we wish them safe and easy travels. In addition, several families still are waiting for travel approval, so we wish them good news in the days to come. This is a joyous time for the families adopting children from TQ, and there's much celebrating to do in the days and months ahead.

Our Travel is Scheduled

We scheduled our travel today and bought our plane tickets, so Chloe, Chris, and I are leaving for Vietnam on October 3rd at 12:12pm to start the journey to adopt Gabrielle. We'll arrive in Hanoi on October 4th and will adopt Gabrielle on October 8th. It feels ironic that after such a long wait, we are now rushing to finish all the final paperwork, packing, and planning in a week. While we're nervous about finishing all the details, we are beyond ready to make this journey to Gabrielle. We keep thinking about how our lives are about to change in just a week. I think about just the details... what dinner time will be like... what it will be like to take family walks... We are about to have the honor of being Gabrielle's parents, and Chloe is going to be a big sister. Gabrielle is in our thoughts always. It's hard to express the joy and the love we feel for this little person we only know through pictures.

Approved to Travel

At long last, we are approved to travel to Vietnam to adopt Gabrielle and bring her back to the US as a citizen. We'll be posting in the days to come with our itinerary. We're thrilled beyond belief and are so excited about meeting our daughter.

Pictures of Both Girls at Just Under 13 Months

After coming home from teaching a weekend workshop, I received a few surprises... First, Chloe and Chris had a birthday cake and a present (a charm bracelet with two hearts, one for each of my daughters) waiting for me. Chloe wrapped the gift herself and made the card. There's nothing better. Second, I learned that Mer took a few pictures of Gabrielle while she was in the orphanage picking up her gorgeous daughter, Lulu. We love all these new pictures, and they leave us counting the minutes until we receive travel approval. It should be on its way soon.

More New Pictures

We received a surprise today. Nanny Lieu sent some new pictures of Gabrielle via Thuy. Thanks so much to both Nanny Lieu and Thuy. Seeing Gabrielle looking so happy and healthy is always a relief. It's our understanding that all the children receive excellent care at the orphanage in TQ. For that, we are grateful! I also will post some pictures of Gabrielle's big sister, Chloe.

Friends Adopting Their Children Today

We are anticipating Gabrielle's pending adoption as we watch friends adopting their children. Today, two families were in Gabrielle's orphanage adopting their children, and we received these pictures. It's wonderful to read about their joy and excitement, and we look forward to following in their footsteps soon.
